Advertising legend Piyush Pandey, who passed away this morning at the age of 70 due to an infection, has been fondly remembered by industrialist Gautam Adani in a moving tribute. The Adani Group chairperson described how Pandey infused Indian advertising with self-confidence, soul, and "swadeshi" swagger during his illustrious career spanning nearly four decades.
Mr. Adani referred to Pandey as a "good friend" and "the voice that made India believe in its own story." The industrialist's heartfelt message highlighted Pandey's significant cultural impact on India's advertising landscape.
"Piyush Pandey was far more than just an advertising legend. He was the voice that made India believe in its own story. He gave Indian advertising its self-confidence, its soul, its 'swadeshi' swagger. And he was a very good friend! Like a master batsman, he played every stroke with his heart. Today, India has lost a true son," Adani expressed in his tribute.
Beginning his journey with Ogilvy in 1982, Pandey transformed the advertising firm through his creative genius. His memorable campaigns for brands like Fevicol, Cadbury, and Asian Paints have left an indelible mark on Indian advertising and consumer culture.
The government recognized Pandey's contributions to the field by awarding him the prestigious Padma Shri in 2016.
