Mumbai:

Customs officials have confiscated hydroponic weed with a combined value of approximately Rs 20 crore in two separate incidents at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, resulting in the arrest of three passengers, authorities announced on Wednesday.

The confiscations occurred on Monday and Tuesday, according to an official statement. One passenger arriving from Bangkok was detained with 11.922 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, estimated to be worth about Rs 11.92 crore.

In a separate operation, Customs personnel intercepted two travelers coming from Hong Kong. Examination of their luggage revealed 7.864 kilograms of hydroponic weed, valued at approximately Rs 7.86 crore.

The illegal substances were concealed within the passengers' checked-in trolley bags.

Hydroponic weed, a highly potent and expensive form of cannabis, is grown using water-based, nutrient-rich solutions rather than conventional soil cultivation methods.
