Mother Dairy's Managing Director Manish Bandlish informed NDTV that following the GST rate reduction, over 150 product categories will become more affordable starting September 22.
The complete benefit of the tax cut will be transferred to consumers, resulting in price decreases ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 30 across various products. These include ghee, butter, cheese, milkshakes, ice cream, jam, pickles, packaged coconut water, frozen vegetables, and ready-to-eat frozen items.
The price reductions will be implemented at all Mother Dairy outlets and approximately 500,000 trade outlets nationwide. Mr. Bandlish told NDTV, "We have directed all outlets that if they have Mother Dairy products in stock at previous rates, they must apply new price stickers and sell them at the reduced rates from September 22."
He clarified that while UHT milk in tetra packs will cost Rs 2 less and a 1kg pack of ghee will see a reduction of Rs 30, pouch milk varieties—including cow, buffalo, and full cream—will maintain their current prices as these products were always GST-exempt.
The reformed GST structure has consolidated all products under 5% and 18% slabs, eliminating the previous 12% and 28% categories. With these changes, all Mother Dairy products now fall under either the exempt or 5% GST categories.
Mr. Bandlish stated, "The recent GST reduction across a wide range of dairy and processed food products represents a progressive step that will significantly boost consumption and accelerate the adoption of safe, high-quality packaged offerings. As a consumer-centric organisation, we are passing on 100% of the tax benefit to our patrons, effective September 22, 2025, keeping up with the spirit of this reform."
"We are confident this measure will positively impact the entire value chain: farmers will benefit from increased demand for packaged food products, further supported by GST reductions on farm equipment and allied components, while consumers will gain from affordable pricing and greater access to packaged dairy and processed foods," he added.
