New Delhi:
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has successfully dismantled a significant narcotic distribution network just before the festive season, confiscating 54,000 Tramadol tablets with an estimated value of Rs 32 lakh. Tramadol, a prescription painkiller, is frequently abused as an intoxicating substance. Authorities have apprehended 50-year-old Mohammad Abid, though his accomplice has evaded capture.
On October 7, the crime branch executed a strategic raid in Sarita Vihar, South Delhi, following reliable intelligence about a drug shipment being readied for distribution throughout Delhi. The confiscated Tramadol tablets had been packaged for illegal sale in the city's underground drug markets.
During questioning, Abid revealed that he had previously run a modest cattle feed business but transitioned to drug trafficking seeking faster financial gains. The investigation also uncovered the involvement of Mohammad Javed Khan, who allegedly managed the operation's supply and distribution networks.
Follow-up raids were conducted at Javed's properties in Jasola Vihar and Johri Farm, Jamia Nagar, but he successfully avoided arrest and has since disappeared. The crime branch has initiated an extensive search operation to locate him and identify other participants in this illegal enterprise.
In conversation with NDTV, a crime branch official stated that had the seized shipment reached the streets, it could have caused substantial harm to hundreds of potential users.
A senior Crime Branch officer added, "The accused was supplying narcotic tablets to local distributors. Further investigations are underway to identify the source of procurement and other links in the chain."
