Rahul Gandhi Meets Family of Dalit Man Lynched in Raebareli: Justice for Hariom Valmiki

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visited the family of Hariom Valmiki, a Dalit man who was tragically lynched in Raebareli, on Friday.

In Kanpur, the victim's uncle Chaudhary Bhakt Das confirmed that Gandhi had a personal interaction with the grieving family members.

Valmiki, 40, was allegedly killed by villagers during a night vigil around 1 am on October 2. The villagers had mistaken him for a thief amid circulating rumors about a gang using drones to survey houses for potential robberies.

The tragic incident sparked widespread outrage across the nation, with opposition parties including the Congress and Samajwadi Party criticizing the BJP government for failing to protect Dalits and prevent mob violence.

Following the attack, authorities registered a case and have arrested 14 individuals so far, including the primary accused who was apprehended after an encounter on October 10. Five police officers, including two sub-inspectors, were suspended for alleged negligence in handling the case.

The Congress leader arrived at Chakeri airport and traveled approximately 80 kilometers by road to Fatehpur, where the meeting with Valmiki's family took place.

Prior to Gandhi's visit, the government issued an offer letter to Hariom's sister, Kusum, for a contractual position as a staff nurse at Fatehpur Medical College.

Authorities implemented strict security measures for Gandhi's visit, with the lane leading to Valmiki's residence being barricaded.
