The Assam government has made a crucial decision in the investigation of cultural icon Zubeen Garg's death by pushing for a fast-track court trial.

Additionally, authorities have established a committee to design and develop a memorial honoring the beloved artist.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) is expected to complete and file a chargesheet by November.

"We have decided to request the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court to conduct the trial in a fast-track court. The state will also appoint a special public prosecutor for this case," Sarma explained.

In another significant development, a team of Assam police officials led by Special DGP and SIT head Munna Prasad Gupta will travel to Singapore on October 20, ahead of their scheduled meeting with Singapore police on October 21.

The Chief Minister credited External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar for facilitating this international cooperation in the investigation.

Addressing the violent protests that occurred outside Baksa district jail where five key accused were transferred, Sarma mentioned that authorities have identified numerous participants through video evidence.

Two individuals injured during these protests are currently receiving treatment at AIIMS, with their condition reportedly improving.

"Reports indicate approximately 150 people attacked the convoy while it was traveling from Guwahati to Baksa, after removing paver blocks. Police have confirmed they did not initiate the confrontation," the Chief Minister stated.
