Heavy overnight rain triggered floods and landslides in Himachal Pradesh, killing a family of three as debris from an adjoining cliff slid onto their house, causing it to collapse, in the Mandi district.

Intense rainfall overnight sparked floods and landslides across Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the death of three family members when debris from a nearby cliff collapsed their home in Mandi district on Tuesday morning. The disaster also swept away multiple vehicles including buses and damaged local businesses.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri shared images showing the extensive damage to both the Jal Shakti Department and Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) facilities. "Fortunately, all corporation employees are safe. Officials have arrived at the scene to assess the situation and evaluate the extent of damage," she stated in a Facebook post.
Additionally, the minister shared video footage displaying the devastation caused by the floods and landslides in Mandi.
In Shimla, a significant landslide buried dozens of vehicles, severely disrupting traffic and forcing authorities to close National Highway 5, which connects Firozpur in Punjab to the Sino-Indian border at Shipki La. No fatalities have been reported from this incident yet.
"The rain was coming down heavily, and around 1 am, we heard a thunderous noise as trees and debris came sliding down, prompting us to immediately relocate our vehicles," recounted a man who had been sleeping in his vehicle near the landslide area.
Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing severe rainfall, flooding, and landslides throughout this season. Since June, over 400 people have died in the state, with the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) confirming that 229 deaths were due to rain-related incidents and 175 resulted from road accidents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow' alert for heavy rainfall today in six districts across the state: Bilaspur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur.
