Police Head Constable Narender Kumar arrested after fatal collision with his vehicle
New Delhi:
In a tragic incident following another recent fatal case of reckless driving in Delhi, two young brothers have lost their lives in neighboring Haryana, with a law enforcement officer as the accused. Authorities in Haryana's Palwal have taken a police head constable into custody after his speeding vehicle struck three brothers who were walking home from school yesterday. Ayaan (13) and Ahsan (9) were killed instantly, while their younger brother Arjaan (7) sustained critical injuries.
Local residents report that the accused officer, Narender Kumar, appeared intoxicated and attempted to flee the scene following the collision. However, community members pursued him and managed to apprehend him approximately 500 meters from the accident site.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohinder Singh informed media outlets that the children were returning from a government school around 1:30 pm when the incident occurred. "A car driven recklessly by head constable Narendra, stationed in Mewat, struck three children. Two died at the scene, and the third has been transferred to Rohtak for treatment. Medical examination will determine whether the accused was intoxicated. The vehicle was traveling at excessive speed. We have impounded the car and arrested the suspect, who is currently under interrogation," the senior officer stated. "We stand firmly with the bereaved family and will provide all possible assistance."
Video footage shows the officer arguing with community members after the collision. His vehicle, a Hyundai Exter, is also visible in the recordings. A resident captured video evidence following the accident and shared it online, saying: "He killed three boys. He didn't even stop; we had to stop him. He is intoxicated."
Shahabuddin, father of the victims, explained that his sons attended a private school near their residence and typically returned on foot. "Yesterday, while they were walking home, this car driven by an intoxicated officer hit them. He didn't stop and attempted to escape. When we intercepted him, he became confrontational and threatened us with his position as a police officer. We then contacted authorities," he recounted.
