PM Modi Condoles Death Of Ex-Kenyan PM Raila Odinga

Odinga was undergoing medical treatment in Kerala's Ernakulam district when he passed away.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his profound sorrow on Wednesday following the death of Kenya's former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a towering statesman and a valued friend of India.

The 80-year-old Odinga passed away on Wednesday while receiving medical care in Kerala's Ernakulam district.

"Deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and former Prime Minister of Kenya, Mr. Raila Odinga. He was a towering statesman and a cherished friend of India," Prime Minister Modi wrote in his message on X.

PM Modi shared that he had the privilege of developing a close relationship with Odinga since his tenure as Gujarat's Chief Minister, a connection that continued to flourish over the years.

"He had a special affection for India, our culture, values and ancient wisdom. This was reflected in his efforts to strengthen India-Kenya ties," PM Modi stated.

"He particularly admired Ayurveda and traditional medicine systems of India, having witnessed their positive impact on his daughter's health. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and to the people of Kenya in this hour of grief," the Prime Minister added.
