Meghalaya Police averted a potential terror incident by successfully defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) discovered in an abandoned bag in Umsning, Ri Bhoi district. The Special Bomb Squad from Shillong neutralized the threat after local residents reported the suspicious item. Authorities have identified a suspect and an investigation is underway under SSP Vivekananda Singh Rathore's supervision. No casualties or property damage were reported.

Explosive Found In Abandoned Bag In Meghalaya, Defused By Police

Meghalaya Police successfully averted what could have been a potential terror incident by defusing an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) discovered inside an abandoned bag in a residential area of Ri Bhoi district.

On Saturday evening around 7:30 pm, residents in Umsning became alarmed after finding an unidentified bag they suspected contained explosives, according to police sources who spoke with NDTV.

Upon receiving the alert, Ri Bhoi District Police promptly contacted the Special Bomb Squad from Shillong, who rushed to the scene. The bomb squad specialists examined the suspicious item and confirmed that an IED was indeed present within the bag.

After a careful operation, the bomb disposal team successfully neutralized the explosive device. The defused IED was subsequently transported to the Umsning Police Outpost for further investigation and analysis.

Authorities have stated that they have identified a suspect believed to be responsible for planting the explosive device. A comprehensive investigation is currently in progress under the direct supervision of Ri Bhoi SSP Vivekananda Singh Rathore.

Officials confirmed that the incident concluded without any damage to property or injuries to civilians during the entire operation.
