Sat Pal Sharma currently serves as BJP President for Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP announced on Sunday its selection of three candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for October 24. The party has nominated J&K BJP unit president Sat Pal Sharma alongside two other candidates, Ghulam Mohammed Mir and Rakesh Mahajan.
For these four Rajya Sabha seats, the Election Commission has issued three separate election notifications.
Based on the current assembly strength, the National Conference-Congress alliance appears to have an advantage in three seats, while the BJP is positioned favorably for one seat.
By fielding candidates for all seats, the BJP has ensured a contested election. The party is expected to launch an intensive campaign to attract MLAs from other parties to bolster support for its nominees.
Earlier on Friday, the ruling National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir had already announced its three candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections and indicated ongoing discussions with Congress regarding the fourth seat.
