New Delhi:

In a shocking incident in Madangir, a woman attacked her sleeping husband by pouring boiling oil and red chilli powder on him, causing him to scream in agony.

The victim, a 28-year-old pharmaceutical company employee named Dinesh, was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital on October 3 with severe burns. He was admitted to the ICU in critical condition.

According to the FIR filed at Ambedkar Nagar Police Station, Dinesh's wife poured hot oil on his torso around 3 am while he was asleep. The couple's eight-year-old daughter was also present in the home during the incident.

Dinesh informed police that he had returned home late on October 2 after work, consumed dinner, and gone to bed. "My wife and daughter were sleeping nearby. At approximately 3:15 am, I suddenly experienced intense burning pain across my body. I saw my wife standing over me, pouring boiling oil on my torso and face. Before I could react or call for help, she sprinkled red chilli powder on my burns," he alleged in his statement.

When he protested, his wife threatened, "'Agar shor machaya to aur garam tel daal doongi' (if you make noise, I will pour more hot oil on you)." Despite this warning, Dinesh could not contain his screams. The commotion alerted neighbors and the landlord's family living on the floor below, who rushed to investigate.

Anjali, the landlord's daughter, was among those who responded. "My father went upstairs to check what was happening. The door was locked from inside by his wife. We requested them to open the door. When they finally did, we found him in excruciating pain while his wife was hiding inside," she told PTI.

Anjali further explained that when her father attempted to intervene, the woman claimed she would take her husband to the hospital. "But when she emerged with him, she headed in the opposite direction. We became suspicious. My father stopped her, arranged an auto-rickshaw, and personally rushed Dinesh to the hospital," she recounted.

Dinesh was initially taken to a nearby medical facility, but upon seeing the severity of burns on his chest, face, and arms, doctors referred him to Safdarjung Hospital.

Police officials confirmed his injuries have been classified as "dangerous" in the medical report.

According to the victim, the couple has been married for eight years with a history of marital problems. Two years prior, his wife had filed a complaint with the Crime Against Women (CAW) Cell, though the matter was eventually resolved through a compromise.

Dinesh's wife has been charged under sections 118 (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means), 124 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by acid), and 326 (mischief by injury, inundation, fire or explosive substance) of the BNS.

"No arrest has been made so far," confirmed a police officer.
