Following the incident, one death has been confirmed.
Moments before a deadly collision on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway near Mozamabad in Dudu, individuals at a nearby hotel were capturing footage on their mobile phones. Within seconds, a high-speed benzene chemical tanker crashed into a truck carrying LPG cylinders, causing explosive eruptions that sent everyone fleeing for safety.
The truck overturned and ignited, propelling cylinders up to 200 metres into adjacent fields. The resulting flames and explosions were visible and audible from several kilometres away. Multiple detonations occurred as the gas cylinders began to rupture.
According to witnesses, the truck driver and cleaner were having their meal at a roadside establishment when a speeding chemical tanker collided with the parked truck. The impact caused the truck to burst into flames, igniting four to five other trucks nearby. LPG cylinders exploded continuously for nearly an hour, severely hampering rescue efforts.
The collision halted traffic on National Highway 48, which connects Jaipur to Ajmer and Delhi to Ahmedabad, resulting in extensive congestion lasting from midnight until morning. Traffic jams stretched approximately seven kilometres in both directions, forcing vehicles to be rerouted via Nasnoda to Mozamabad and towards Dudu.
The tanker driver's death has been reported. Dr. Mrinal Joshi, Superintendent of Jaipur's SMS Hospital, stated that the remains have been transferred to the mortuary, with final confirmation pending a Forensic Science Laboratory investigation. An injured individual named Saddam, son of Munim from Ladera in Dudu, has been admitted to Geetanjali Hospital in Bhankrota.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma described the LPG tanker accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer Highway as "extremely tragic." He urged the district administration to ensure proper medical care for the injured and provide all possible assistance to those affected.
In a statement posted on X, Sharma said, "The accident of a fire breaking out in a truck loaded with gas cylinders on the Jaipur-Ajmer National Highway in the Mozmabad police station area of Jaipur Rural is extremely tragic. Fire brigade and disaster management teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations at the incident site. Instructions have been given to the district administration to ensure proper treatment for the injured and to provide all possible assistance to those affected. I pray to God for the safety and well-being of all citizens affected by this heart-wrenching incident."
