IndiGo, India's largest airline, has announced the introduction of daily direct flights connecting Mumbai and London Heathrow Airport starting October 26, further expanding its international network.
The new service will be operated using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft leased from Norse Atlantic Airways, featuring both economy class and IndiGoStretch seating options for passengers.
This announcement comes after IndiGo's successful launch of services to Manchester from Mumbai in July this year.
With the addition of London Heathrow, IndiGo will now serve 45 international destinations and 138 destinations overall within its growing network, demonstrating the airline's continued commitment to expanding its global presence.
Commenting on the new route, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers emphasized the significant relevance of the India-UK corridor, highlighting the strong bilateral ties between the nations and increasing traffic driven by students, visiting friends and relatives, business travelers, and tourists.
The airline has been actively expanding its international presence, having added approximately 40 new international destinations since 2015, with nearly half of those added in just the past three years.
In addition to Manchester and London, IndiGo recently launched services to Amsterdam in July and is scheduled to begin flights to Copenhagen on October 8, further strengthening its European network.
IndiGo currently operates approximately 2,200 daily flights with a fleet comprising over 400 aircraft, cementing its position as a major player in both domestic and international air travel.
