Sonam Wangchuk is currently incarcerated in Jodhpur prison, Rajasthan.
New Delhi:
On Monday, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the Central Government and the Union Territory of Ladakh regarding a petition filed by Gitanjali J Angmo, wife of Sonam Wangchuk, contesting the climate activist's detention under the National Security Act and requesting his immediate release.
The bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria declined to issue any order concerning the provision of detention grounds to Wangchuk's wife and scheduled the case for hearing on October 14.
Wangchuk was taken into custody under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) on September 26, two days following protests demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh that resulted in four fatalities and 90 injuries in the Union territory.
Wangchuk remains detained in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan.
