Police officials on Saturday conducted interrogations of ambulance drivers who were on duty during actor-politician Vijay's election rally in Karur on September 27.
The tragic stampede at this political gathering resulted in 41 fatalities and left approximately 60 people injured.
A Karur Town Police official confirmed that five to six drivers who were present at the Velusamypuram incident site appeared before investigators for questioning.
The inquiry included drivers from both government and private ambulance services, who had been dispatched from Karur and surrounding districts, the official informed PTI.
According to media sources, investigators sought specific information including who had summoned these drivers, the number of emergency calls received by healthcare facilities both public and private, and the total count of ambulances that were deployed for emergency response on September 27.
ADGP (Law and Order) Davidson Devasirvatham had previously told reporters on September 28 that five ambulances arranged by TVK were positioned near the police quarters in the vicinity.
"Immediately following the stampede incident, police used a microphone to alert the local police station, and approximately 10 ambulances from Amaravathi Hospital were quickly deployed for emergency services. This is a significant point to note," he had stated.
