Assam Civil Service officer Nupur Bora was arrested following extensive vigilance operations
Guwahati:
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that Assam Civil Service (ACS) officer Nupur Bora, recently arrested for possessing disproportionate wealth, had been under surveillance for six months prior to her arrest.
The 36-year-old Bora, serving as circle officer in Kamrup district's Goroimari, was apprehended on Monday after comprehensive raids conducted at her properties. The Chief Minister's Special Vigilance cell seized cash amounting to Rs 92 lakh and jewelry valued at approximately Rs 1 crore from her Guwahati residence. An additional Rs 10 lakh in cash was discovered during a search of her rented accommodation in Barpeta.
Following the raids, CM Sarma disclosed that Bora had come under scrutiny after allegations surfaced regarding her involvement in controversial land transactions.
"This officer transferred Hindu land to suspicious individuals for monetary gain during her posting in Barpeta revenue circle. That's why she was placed under continuous surveillance. We have implemented strict measures against her," the Chief Minister told reporters while attending a function in Guwahati.
When questioned about the recurring corruption among revenue circle officers, Mr. Sarma stated that "widespread corruption exists in revenue circles within minority-dominated areas."

She was subsequently appointed as Circle Officer in Barpeta before being transferred to Kamrup.
