In Delhi's Narela, a drunk teacher named Rishi Kumar refused to pay for a food delivery, leading to serious consequences. The delivery partner, finding himself unpaid, called the police. When two officers arrived, Kumar, heavily intoxicated, behaved inappropriately toward them and was subsequently taken to the police station. A medical examination confirmed his inebriated state.
A CCTV camera positioned outside Kumar's residence captured footage of the police officers forcibly escorting him down the building's staircase. The delivery partner is also visible in this recording.
The footage, which shows police officers verbally abusing Kumar, spread rapidly across social media. Many viewers questioned the legitimacy of the forced transport to the police station.
Police have now clarified that Arjun, the food delivery worker, contacted authorities on Monday evening. He reported that individuals at the delivery address had taken the food forcibly, refused payment, and subjected him to verbal abuse.
"ASI Deshpal and Constable Ravish were dispatched to attend the call. Upon arrival, the caller (Arjun) alleged that the individuals physically assaulted him," according to the official police statement.
When questioned about the incident, Rishi Kumar reportedly verbally abused the officers. Noticing his apparent intoxication, police requested him to accompany them, which he refused. Eventually, the officers forcibly transported him to a hospital for medical testing. "The MLC (medico-legal case) was conducted immediately and he tested positive for alcohol," the police statement confirmed.
Authorities noted that Arjun declined to file a formal complaint because he needed to complete additional deliveries. "So the alleged person, Rishi Kumar, a teacher, was counselled and sent back home."
Police investigations also revealed that Kumar had provided false identification during his medical examination. The matter remains under investigation.
