PM Modi highlighted that numerous conspiracies have repeatedly targeted the RSS.
New Delhi:
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as an organization dedicated to character development for nation-building purposes, encouraging individuals to transform their perspective from 'I' to 'We'.
Speaking at the RSS centenary celebrations held at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi, he remarked, "Just as human communities thrive along riverbanks, countless lives have flourished within the stream of Sangh. The Sangh has influenced every aspect of our country."
"While the RSS comprises numerous sub-organizations, they all unite under a single mission—'Rashtriya Pratham' (Nation First). No two sub-organizations contradict or conflict with each other," the Prime Minister continued.
Emphasizing that RSS made a "strong resolve of national building," PM Modi explained, "To achieve this resolve, Sangh selected a journey from individual development to national development. Implementing this vision required an organization operating consistently. Hedgewar ji understood that our nation would only become stronger when every Indian citizen developed national responsibility. This is why he constantly focused on individual development."
"Sangh functions as an organization of inspiration, where volunteers begin their journey from 'I' to 'We'," he affirmed.
The Prime Minister noted that this character-building process remains visible today in RSS shakhas, which serve as "sacred platforms for character development."
"Within these shakhas, individuals experience physical, mental, and social growth. A powerful sense of national service and courage gradually develops in the hearts of swayamsevaks... The noble aim of national development, a clear path of character development, and the simple work of the Shakha have become Sangh's foundation," he stated.
Honoring Hedgewar and acknowledging RSS contributions to the freedom struggle, PM Modi said, "During the independence movement, we observe how respected Dr. Hedgewar and numerous Sangh workers actively participated. Dr. Hedgewar himself was imprisoned in Nagpur Jail. The Sangh continuously supported countless freedom fighters, standing alongside them throughout their struggle."
The Prime Minister mentioned that throughout its national service journey, the RSS faced repeated conspiracy attacks but never allowed these attempts to overpower the organization.
"The Sangh has indeed faced attacks and conspiracies. Even after Independence, repeated attempts were made to suppress the organization and prevent its mainstream participation. Guruji was falsely implicated and even imprisoned. However, upon his release, he spoke with remarkable composure, offering words that remain a powerful historical inspiration," he said.
"Regardless of how many conspiracies were directed against the Sangh, the Swayamsevaks never yielded to acrimony," he added.
