Police officials are conducting an investigation into the tragic incident, with further inquiries currently in progress.

In a heartbreaking incident on Saturday, a couple took their own lives by jumping into a dam in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh after leaving their two-year-old son on the roadside, according to police reports.

The tragic event took place at Bukakhedi dam, approximately 70 kilometers away from the district headquarters, as confirmed by Multai police station in-charge Devkaran Deheria.

"Shubham Kardate, aged 25, and his wife Roshni, aged 24, had married for love four years ago. Preliminary investigations indicate that frequent family disputes may have driven the couple to this extreme decision. On Saturday morning, following an argument, Roshni left home with their child. Shubham followed her, and both made their way to Bukakhedi dam," explained Deheria.

"Before taking the fatal step, Shubham contacted his maternal uncle, Munna Parihar from Hatanapur, requesting him to come to the dam to take custody of their child. Shortly after Parihar arrived on his motorcycle, the couple jumped into the dam together. Parihar took the child into his care and promptly notified authorities," Deheria further stated.

A State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) team recovered the bodies after a two-hour search operation. Officials have registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
