Kozhikode (Kerala):

Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has criticized the Left government in the state, suggesting that those who oppose 'guru pooja' and 'Bharat Mata' concepts are merely "pretending to be Sabarimala devotees."

Governor Arlekar challenged these critics, stating that if they truly possess such "sanctity," "principles," and "bhava" (emotions), they should openly express their beliefs rather than concealing them.

"Why is this being done? Only for political convenience? Bharat Mata, guru pooja, and similar traditions are not politically convenient for anybody. They are ingrained in our blood, thought, and entire being. We are not politically motivated," he declared while addressing a Navaratri celebration event in Kozhikode.

The Governor emphasized that these practices represent fundamental aspects of Indian culture that cannot be ignored or dismissed.

He expressed concern when discussing how 'guru pooja'—the traditional practice where students wash their teachers' feet—faced opposition in schools, prompting teachers and principals to approach him with their concerns.

"I was astonished at how this could happen, especially in a state known for its cultural sophistication. Kerala possesses immense cultural wealth, yet such controversies are occurring here," he observed.

The Governor also openly acknowledged his ideological roots, mentioning that during a recent interview with a reporter, he had clearly stated that his perspectives were shaped by the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh).

"I also explained to the reporter that if RSS advocates for nation-building and social organization, what objection could there be to such aims?" he noted.

Arlekar concluded by asserting that current developments across the country are aligned with national interests, and this message needs to reach every household and family throughout India.
