Tensions Rise as Police Investigate Zubeen Garg's Death: Manager Siddhartha Sharma Evades Authorities Amid Protests

Assam police's Special Investigation Team is investigating the death of iconic singer Zubeen Garg, focusing on his manager Siddhartha Sharma who has allegedly acquired substantial wealth and is now evading authorities. Protests have erupted near Sharma's residence while investigators have detained musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and raided cultural activist Shyamkanu Mahanta's home in connection with the case.

On Thursday, crowds of protesters surrounded the residence of Siddhartha Sharma, the manager of Zubeen Garg.

Tensions escalated today near Siddhartha Sharma's home - the manager of the late iconic singer Zubeen Garg - when police used batons to disperse an agitated crowd. The Assam Police Special Investigation Team is currently investigating the singer's death, which occurred in Singapore last week.

Siddhartha Sharma, who has managed Zubeen Garg since 2014, is currently evading authorities and has allegedly amassed considerable wealth and properties worth several crores. He currently possesses multiple high-value assets across Assam. Reports indicate he allegedly assumed the position of Managing Director of Zubeen Garg Music LLP in 2023.

The previous day, a large crowd demonstrated in front of his residence, calling for his immediate arrest.

The situation intensified when SIT personnel entered the premises to conduct a raid. The gathered protesters surrounded the building, with some believing Sharma had been apprehended by the SIT team. When no evidence of his arrest materialized, some protesters attacked a police vehicle, prompting the deployed Rapid Action Force to respond with a baton charge.

The Assam police Special Investigation Team has taken musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami into custody for questioning. Goswami was among those present during the yacht trip on which Zubeen Garg died.

Additionally, the SIT has visited the home of entrepreneur and cultural activist Shyamkanu Mahanta to commence an investigation. Authorities have yet to release information regarding this raid. The SIT team has conducted searches at Mahanta's residence.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Shyamkanu Mahanta's programs fail to represent authentic Assamese culture, resulting in the state government's decision to withdraw financial support for his initiatives.

"Shyamkanu Mahanta's programs have no connection to genuine Assamese culture, which is why I never participated in them. I once attended his event at Judges Field, but promptly departed following a disruption from the audience," Chief Minister Sarma told reporters.
