Ladakh Violence: 4 Dead, 80 Injured, Centre Says Situation Under Control

Central government confirms no violent incidents in Ladakh have occurred since 4 pm Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Union Home Ministry on Wednesday, the volatile situation in Ladakh has been successfully brought under control, with no further incidents of violence reported after 4 pm.

The ministry has issued an appeal to the public to avoid sharing outdated or inflammatory videos on media platforms and social networks that could potentially reignite tensions.

"While unfortunate incidents did occur earlier in the day, authorities have managed to stabilize the situation in Ladakh by 4 pm," the official statement indicated.

The Home Ministry further reaffirmed that the central government remains dedicated to addressing the aspirations of Ladakh's population by implementing suitable constitutional protections.

Wednesday's protests demanding statehood for Ladakh escalated into chaos, with violent confrontations, property destruction, and street battles erupting in Leh. The unrest resulted in four fatalities and approximately 80 injuries, including 40 law enforcement officers, according to official sources.

Officials reported that security forces, including police and paramilitary units stationed throughout the town, deployed tear gas to disperse crowds and restore order.
