According to information from the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the Namami Gange Programme represents an integrated conservation mission that received approval from the Central Government in June 2014 as a 'flagship programme'. It aims to achieve dual objectives: pollution abatement and conservation/rejuvenation of India's national river Ganga, with an allocated budget of Rs 20,000 crore.
The implementation strategy is structured in three phases: entry-level activities designed for immediate visible impact; medium-term activities to be implemented within a 5-year timeframe; and long-term activities planned for execution over a 10-year period.
