A new development has emerged in Dulquer Salmaan's luxury car tax evasion investigation, with sources revealing that his Toyota Land Cruiser is actually registered under someone else's name. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs authorities have launched a nationwide operation called 'Numkhor' targeting luxury car tax evasion, with Kerala being a particular focus area.

The Malayalam film star is among several celebrities being investigated by Customs officials. Yesterday, high-profile inspections were conducted at 30 locations across various Kerala districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kozhikode, and Malappuram, with visits to both Mr. Salmaan and fellow actor Prithviraj's residences.
Sources indicate that Customs authorities are preparing to summon Mr. Salmaan to provide his statement. The case could potentially involve other agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), as it's being treated as a national security matter. The Kerala High Court was informed today by the ED counsel that the Enforcement Directorate will also be investigating the case.
Officials have confiscated actor Amit Chakkalakal's Land Rover along with seven other vehicles. Customs sources suspect he has direct contact with the agents involved in the scheme.
The ongoing investigation has discovered that at least eight different luxury vehicles were imported into India through Bhutan without proper tax payment. These vehicles were initially registered in Himachal Pradesh before being moved to other parts of the country with altered registration numbers.
Additional inspections are being conducted at prominent car showrooms throughout Kerala. Officials emphasize that this is a systematic operation targeting both dealerships and individual importers suspected of tax evasion.
The luxury vehicle market is particularly susceptible to illegal tax evasion practices, necessitating thorough inspections. Operation 'Numkhor' is examining multiple aspects of these activities, including documentation, registration procedures, and transportation routes.
