Gorakhpur (UP):

A 25-year-old BSc student was critically wounded after being shot in Pathra Badgo village, police reported on Tuesday.

The perpetrator has been apprehended by law enforcement.

According to officials, the victim, Aman Maurya, was pursued by a group of individuals on Monday before they allegedly fired at him. He fell to the ground immediately and was transported to BRD Medical College, where he remains in serious condition.

"I was inspecting my fields in Nautanwa when the incident occurred. I hurried back as soon as I received the news," said Manoj Maurya, the victim's father who works as a farmer.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Prashant Singh from Azamgarh, who discharged five bullets into Maurya's back, has been arrested.

During questioning, Singh reportedly admitted to watching YouTube videos to learn how to commit the crime, according to police.

The complaint filed by Aman's father states that the accused resided in a rental property next door and had previously been caught spying into their home.

Police indicated that Aman recently confronted Singh and warned him to cease this behavior. Angered by the confrontation, Singh allegedly planned revenge by researching shootings online before executing the attack.

Authorities also seized a locally manufactured pistol and a mobile device from the suspect.

"His browsing history reveals multiple searches related to shooting incidents and their consequences. He has been remanded to jail," ASP Tyagi stated. PTI CORR ABN MPL MPL
