Priyanka Gandhi is a year older than her brother Rahul.
New Delhi:
Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has alleged a division between Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi and his sister, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Bittu, who defected from Congress to BJP before last year's general election, claimed Rahul traveled to Germany during Parliament's Winter Session due to frustration over comparisons between his and Priyanka's parliamentary speeches.
"The two Gandhis are fighting. I've learned that people have compared Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi's speeches in the House. This has upset Rahul Gandhi, causing him to quarrel with his family and party before leaving," Bittu told NDTV this morning.
No Congress representative has yet addressed these unsubstantiated allegations.
The Gandhi siblings are known for their mutual support in both political and personal spheres. Before the Vande Mataram debate, Rahul Gandhi actually encouraged media to "listen to Priyanka's speech." Priyanka, the elder sibling, consistently defends Rahul against BJP's political criticisms. She even responded to questions about his current Germany trip, stating, "(Prime Minister) Modiji spends almost half his working time outside the country. Why are they raising questions on the Leader of the Opposition travelling."
While Rahul Gandhi has served as an MP for over twenty years, Priyanka Gandhi secured her first Lok Sabha seat in last year's general election.
Gandhi is visiting Berlin from December 15 to 20 for an Indian Overseas Congress event. The current Winter Session of Parliament concludes on December 19.
The Indian Overseas Congress has characterized Rahul Gandhi's visit as an important outreach initiative designed to enhance the party's international engagement. "We are honoured to welcome Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Member of Parliament, who will be engaging with the Indian diaspora in Berlin on December 17, 2025. The event will bring together all Presidents of the Indian Overseas Congress from across Europe, providing a unique platform to discuss key issues with Shri Rahul Gandhi, particularly on strengthening the Congress Party, NRI issues and further exploring how the IOC can play a pivotal role in connecting more people to the party and spreading its ideology," stated the Indian Overseas Congress.
