Bareilly (UP):
In an extraordinary sequence of events resembling a soap opera plot, a Bareilly district resident fled with his wife's sister, only to have his brother-in-law escape with his own sister the following day.
According to police statements on Tuesday, both families reached an amicable resolution, resulting in no legal action being pursued.
The remarkable incident occurred last month in Kamalupur village within the Deoranian police jurisdiction. Keshav Kumar (28), who had been married for six years and had two children, disappeared on August 23 with Kalpana, his 19-year-old sister-in-law.
The very next day, Ravindra (22), the brother of Keshav's wife, secretly departed with Keshav's 19-year-old sister.
These consecutive elopements left both households stunned and prompted them to file a report with Nawabganj police.
"We located the couples on September 14 and 15," stated Nawabganj SHO Arun Kumar Srivastava, noting that family members subsequently convened at the station to address the situation. Police reported that what ensued was an unexpected reconciliation rather than confrontation. With community elders present, the families collectively decided to accept the couples' decisions and refrain from pursuing legal measures.
Though the matter is now resolved officially, it continues to be a significant topic of local conversation.
