Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a firm directive to BJP MLAs and party officials during a meeting in Gorakhpur, emphasizing that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists must be treated as their highest priority.
At the Annexe auditorium gathering, Adityanath stressed that party members should dedicate the upcoming month entirely to this crucial electoral exercise.
During the hour-long session, the Chief Minister instructed party workers to conduct comprehensive door-to-door visits throughout their assigned booths to identify residents who have and have not submitted SIR forms.
He called for voter-awareness camps to be organized at every booth across all districts, with senior party workers being assigned specific responsibilities to ensure thorough coverage.
Adityanath highlighted the importance of monitoring voter mobility, specifically tracking citizens who have relocated both in and out of constituencies.
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to verify that newly married women, whose names may have been removed from voter lists at previous addresses, are properly registered at their new residences.
Similarly, he insisted that workers ensure individuals who have migrated to Gorakhpur for employment opportunities are included on voter rolls without exception.
Adityanath directed district presidents to establish teams consisting of ten workers per booth – evenly split between five men and five women – to effectively reach all voters and verify their SIR form submission status.
Addressing the MLAs directly, he instructed them to closely monitor every booth, maintain constant communication with booth-level workers, ensure proper form completion and submission, and pay particular attention to notices issued during the claims-and-objections phase of the process.
The Chief Minister emphasized that voter awareness camps should be conducted in rural areas with the same level of dedication as those in urban centers.
Referencing opposition protests against the SIR process, Adityanath cautioned BJP workers against complacency, stating: "Do not assume that those opposing SIR are inactive on the ground. Their workers are engaged actively. BJP workers must respond with equal commitment."
He urged party members to reach every eligible voter, ensuring no legitimate voter is overlooked while preventing fraudulent registrations. "BJP workers must be available to assist every voter," he emphasized.
Notable attendees at the meeting included Gorakhpur in-charge minister Swatantradev Singh, NISHAD Party national president Sanjay Nishad, BJP state vice-president and SIR in-charge Dharmendra Singh, regional president Sahajanand Rai, local MLAs, district presidents, and SIR convenors.
