Chandigarh:

A significant political controversy has emerged in Punjab ahead of the forthcoming Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal published what he alleges to be a leaked audio recording revealing a plot to prevent opposition candidates from submitting nomination papers.

The 18-minute audio file, shared by Badal on X platform, purportedly captures a high-level conference call conducted late on December 3. According to his claims, the conversation involved senior Punjab Police officials and was coordinated by SSP Patiala Varun Sharma. The recorded voices seemingly discuss strategies to block Akali Dal candidates from election participation, reportedly under influence from the governing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Describing the situation as a "democracy being subverted," Badal criticized the state administration for allegedly exploiting police resources for political advantage. He urged immediate action from the Election Commission and judiciary to safeguard electoral fairness.

These accusations have heightened political friction just as the nomination deadline approaches, raising fundamental concerns about electoral process integrity. The recording's authenticity remains officially unverified.

Patiala Police Denounce Circulated Recording as 'Fabricated'

In response to the alleged audio recording distributed by SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal, Patiala Police have issued a definitive statement declaring it fake and artificially generated.

Their official communication asserts that the recording was created with deliberate intent to deceive the public, disseminate false information, and disrupt peace during the electoral period. "Legal proceedings will be initiated against those responsible," they stated.

The Patiala Police cautioned citizens against believing manipulated content and reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining election integrity.
