The IndiGo flight en route from Madinah to Hyderabad received a bomb threat via email while airborne, prompting authorities to divert it to Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Hyderabad:
Officials confirmed that IndiGo flight 6E58, traveling from Saudi Arabia's Madinah to Hyderabad, was diverted to Ahmedabad on Thursday following a bomb threat. The aircraft carried 180 passengers and six crew members and landed safely at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The bomb threat was reportedly received via email while the flight was in mid-air. As Ahmedabad was the nearest airport available, authorities made the precautionary decision to divert the aircraft there.
Upon landing, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel collaborated with local police and a bomb disposal squad to thoroughly inspect the aircraft. No suspicious items were discovered during this inspection.
According to Flightradar24 data, the Airbus A320 aircraft departed from Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah at 5:29 a.m., more than three hours after its scheduled 2:10 a.m. departure time. The flight was originally expected to arrive at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad around 12:30 p.m.
This incident occurred amid numerous flight cancellations by IndiGo at various airports, including Hyderabad.
This marks the second such diversion involving a Hyderabad-bound flight in just three days.
On December 2, another IndiGo flight (6E-1234) traveling from Kuwait to Hyderabad was diverted to Mumbai after Hyderabad Airport authorities received a bomb threat. The threat message was sent to the airport's customer support. This flight, carrying 235 passengers, was diverted as an emergency measure but landed safely at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
Following standard emergency protocols, that aircraft was moved to an isolated bay where CISF personnel and bomb disposal squads conducted a comprehensive security check. All passengers and crew members remained safe throughout the incident.
On November 23, a similar incident occurred when Gulf Air flight GF274 from Bahrain to Hyderabad with 154 passengers onboard was diverted to Mumbai. This diversion followed an email received at Hyderabad Airport claiming a bomb had been planted on the aircraft.
After a thorough security inspection, the bomb threat was confirmed to be a hoax. The Gulf Air flight subsequently departed from Mumbai and successfully landed at Hyderabad Airport.
