New Delhi:
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court witnessed dramatic moments when a female attorney was removed from Chief Justice of India's courtroom after she continuously interrupted proceedings by raising an unlisted case despite the bench's directives to cease.
The disruption occurred when the lawyer attempted to make an unscheduled oral presentation before the bench consisting of CJI Surya Kant and Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and N K Singh.
The attorney claimed that her close friend had been murdered in a Delhi guest house while she was in Mumbai. She further alleged that the police officer who initially refused to register the First Information Report (FIR) had subsequently been appointed as the Investigating Officer for the case.
When the Chief Justice advised her to follow proper procedures and submit a formal petition, the lawyer responded, "I am in depression, I will do that," but refused to vacate the floor.
The bench requested another attorney present to assist her with filing a case, but the woman continued her argument even as the next case was announced.
The situation intensified when the lawyer resisted female court marshals' attempts to escort her out, shouting, "Don't misbehave, don't touch me." Despite Justice Bhuyan's intervention and a fellow advocate's recommendation to maintain courtroom decorum, the woman remained insistent, stating she wanted to "put it in the ears of this court" regarding concerns for her safety.
The court's online streaming was temporarily muted when she continued raising her voice, and she was ultimately escorted from the courtroom.
