PMO to be Renamed Seva Teerth: India's Shift Towards Citizen-First Governance Under PM Modi

India's Prime Minister's Office will be renamed Seva Teerth, reflecting a nationwide shift toward citizen-first governance. The new complex, previously known as 'Executive Enclave', symbolizes the government's commitment to service over power. Under PM Modi's leadership, official spaces are being renamed to emphasize duty and transparency, including changes to Raj Bhavans, the Central Secretariat, and Rajpath, all representing India's democratic transition from entitlement to responsibility.

The Prime Minister's Office or the PMO will be renamed Seva Teerth, in alignment with citizen-first governance, according to sources who informed NDTV.

Seva Teerth, as sources indicate, will be a workspace designed to embody the spirit of service and where national priorities are formed.

The new complex, which is approaching its final stages of completion, was previously referred to as the 'Executive Enclave' under the Central Vista Redevelopment project.

In addition to the PMO, the 'Executive Enclave' will also house offices of the Cabinet Secretariat, National Security Council Secretariat and India House, which will serve as a venue for high-level discussions with visiting dignitaries.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the spaces of governance have been transformed to emphasize 'kartavya (duty)' and transparency, sources mentioned, adding that every name, building and symbol now reflects a simple concept: government exists to serve.

The names of Raj Bhavans - the official residences of Governors - are also being changed to Lok Bhavan in accordance with the government's commitment to public service.

The Prime Minister's official residence was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg in 2016. A name that represents welfare, not exclusivity, sources explained.

The Central Secretariat has been renamed Kartavya Bhavan. The Bhavan, according to sources, is an extensive administrative center built around the principle that public service is a commitment.

Similarly, Rajpath was transformed into Kartavya Path, conveying the message that power is not an entitlement; it is a duty.

Indian democracy, sources added, is selecting responsibility over power and service over status.

A change in names also signifies a shift in mindset, which now communicates the language of seva, kartavya and citizen-first governance, sources stated.
