Agra Cop's Father Disputes Suicide, Claims She Was Strangled, Then Hanged

The father of a 28-year-old female police constable has challenged the suicide narrative surrounding his daughter's death, asserting she was likely murdered before being hanged to stage a suicide, authorities reported on Monday.

Karamveer Singh, a farmer from Baiman village in Agra, performed the final rites for his daughter Hemlata on Sunday. He firmly stated, "She was not the type to take her own life," insisting that his daughter was first strangled and then suspended to create the appearance of suicide.

According to police officials, Mr. Singh has yet to file a formal written complaint regarding his allegations.

Hemlata, who served at Roraawar Police Station, resided in a rented accommodation in the Bannadevi area. She was discovered deceased in her room on Saturday.

Bannadevi Station House Officer S P Singh disclosed that the post-mortem examination failed to provide definitive conclusions about the cause of death.

Deputy Inspector General Prabhakar Choudhry informed reporters on Monday that preliminary evidence suggests suicide, noting that the residence was secured from inside when authorities arrived at the scene.

Law enforcement was alerted to the situation by one of the constable's friends who noticed her concerning WhatsApp status that indicated suicidal intentions.

Upon arrival, police had to forcibly enter the premises, where they discovered Hemlata hanging.
