Following a cabinet meeting, CM Sarma informed reporters, "The legendary singer Zubeen Garg will be cremated on September 23, near Disang resort in Sonapur. Numerous people are continuing to arrive to pay their final respects to their beloved Zubeen Garg."

He further stated that "Bhogeswar Baruah Stadium in Sarusajai will remain accessible 24 hours a day, providing thousands of fans the opportunity to offer their last tributes to the legendary singer."

The Chief Minister addressed competing requests regarding the cremation location, noting, "Residents of Jorhat requested that Zubeen should be cremated there, citing his childhood connections and the beginning of his musical career in Jorhat. After discussions with Garima Garg and other family members, they expressed preference for cremation near Guwahati."

While the state government initially declared three days of mourning until September 22, CM Sarma confirmed this has been extended by an additional day to accommodate the cremation ceremony.

He also revealed that authorities in Singapore have issued the singer's death certificate, which officially confirms drowning as the cause of death.

"Understanding the public's desire to pay final respects, Bhogeswar Baruah Stadium will remain open throughout the night for people to visit. Tomorrow as well, Zubeen's mortal remains will continue to be at Sarusajai for public homage," the Chief Minister added.

The acclaimed singer tragically passed away on Friday in Singapore while swimming in the sea without wearing a life jacket.
