Donald Trump expressed outrage on Wednesday regarding a New York Times article that examined his age and apparent signs of fatigue. The former president vehemently insisted that he maintains abundant energy and made personal remarks about the female journalist who authored the piece.
"I have never worked so hard in my life. Yet despite all of this the Radical Left Lunatics in the soon to fold New York Times did a hit piece on me that I am perhaps losing my Energy, despite facts that show the exact opposite," the 79-year-old Republican declared on his Truth Social platform.
Trump holds the distinction of being the oldest individual ever to assume the US presidency, and the responsibilities of the office have noticeably affected him since beginning his second term in January.
In his extensive post, characterized by capitalized phrases and spelling errors, Trump claimed the Times article published Tuesday overlooked his achievements.
He enumerated what he considered his significant accomplishments, spanning from his election victory last year to the robust US stock market performance and the resolution of international conflicts.
Additionally, he boasted about recently undergoing a "PERFECT PHYSICAL EXAM AND A COMPREHENSIVE COGNITIVE TEST ('That was aced') JUST RECENTLY TAKEN."
Trump remains a constant presence in media coverage, frequently engaging with journalists for extended periods—in stark contrast to his predecessor Joe Biden, who left office at age 81.
However, despite the White House public relations team continuing to portray Trump as remarkably vigorous—creating AI-generated images depicting him as muscular superheroes and warriors—the Republican president is visibly decelerating.
The report in the influential Times noted that Trump has substantially reduced his public appearances and domestic travel compared to his first term, typically maintaining a public schedule between noon and 5:00 pm.
During a televised Oval Office event earlier this month, Trump appeared to momentarily fall asleep.
Questions persist regarding Trump's health, particularly concerning why he underwent an MRI scan in October and what the results revealed. Photographs showing his swollen ankles and a significant bruise on his right hand have also fueled speculation.
Trump labeled the Times "truly an 'ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE.'"
He also characterized the female reporter who authored the Times report as "ugly, both inside and out." Earlier this month, he referred to another woman journalist as "piggy" and yet another as "a terrible person."
The Times responded to Trump's comments with a statement asserting that its "reporting is accurate and built on first hand reporting of the facts."
"Name-calling and personal insults don't change that, nor will our journalists hesitate to cover this administration in the face of intimidation tactics like this."
