Imran Khan's Sisters Allegedly Assaulted by Police While Seeking Visit to Jailed Former Pakistani PM Amid Death Rumors

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been detained in Adiala Jail since 2023, sparking concerns as his three sisters recently claimed they were "brutally assaulted" by police when demanding to meet their brother amid circulating death rumors.

Noreen Khan, Aleema Khan, and Uzma Khan have reported that they were physically attacked alongside Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters when they gathered outside the Rawalpindi facility this week. The sisters expressed alarm, stating they have been prevented from seeing Khan for more than three weeks.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party released a statement describing how Khan's sisters and supporters were peacefully sitting outside the jail when police "pounced on them" and "brutally assaulted" them for simply requesting a meeting with the imprisoned former leader. The party has called for an independent investigation into the incident.

In a formal letter addressed to Punjab police chief Usman Anwar, Khan's sisters detailed the nature of the alleged attack, calling it "brutal and orchestrated and carried out by policemen without provocation." They emphasized that their protest was peaceful, with no road blockages or unlawful conduct.

Noreen Niazi specifically recounted: "At the age of 71, I was seized by my hair, thrown violently to the ground, and dragged across the road, sustaining visible injuries." She added that other women present were also slapped and dragged by officers.

The sisters characterized the police actions as part of "a broader and troubling pattern of indiscriminate force" against peaceful protesters over the past three years, describing the conduct as "criminal, illegal, morally reprehensible, and in direct contradiction to the foundational duties of any law enforcement agency in a democratic society."

Khan, who serves as patron-in-chief of PTI, has reportedly been held in complete isolation and solitary confinement. According to a lawyer from his legal team, Khalid Yousaf Chaudry, even basic necessities like books and access to legal counsel are being restricted. "The law of the jungle prevails here, where only the beast who rules has rights. No one else has any rights," Chaudry stated.

Even high-ranking officials have been denied access to Khan. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reportedly made seven consecutive attempts to visit Khan in jail but was refused by authorities, whom Khan alleges are under the control of an army officer.

The situation continues to escalate as concerns grow about Khan's wellbeing and the treatment of his family members who seek confirmation of his condition amid swirling rumors.
