Four additional individuals have been apprehended by French authorities in connection with the extraordinary jewelry theft at the Louvre museum that occurred last month, according to the Paris prosecutor.
"The arrested individuals include two men, ages 38 and 39, and two women, ages 31 and 40, all residents of the Paris area," stated Laure Beccuau, following previous charges against four other suspects related to the October 19 heist.
During the daring daylight robbery last month, a four-person team infiltrated the Louvre, which holds the distinction of being the world's most frequented art museum. They required merely seven minutes to steal jewelry valued at approximately $102 million before escaping on scooters.
The thieves utilized a moving truck equipped with a ladder positioned beneath the museum's Apollo Gallery, which houses the French crown jewels. They ascended using a bucket, shattered a window, and employed angle grinders to cut through glass display cases containing the treasures.
The four individuals previously charged in connection with the theft include three men and one woman.
According to Beccuau's earlier statement this month, one of those men, aged 37, was in a relationship with the woman and they have children together.
During their escape, the thieves inadvertently dropped a diamond and emerald-adorned crown that once belonged to Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III.
However, they successfully absconded with eight other jewelry pieces, including an emerald-and-diamond necklace that Napoleon I presented to his second wife, Empress Marie-Louise.
The stolen items have not yet been recovered.
