Morgan Geyser was last observed with an adult acquaintance.
Authorities reported Sunday that a Wisconsin woman who admitted to nearly fatally stabbing a classmate in 2014 to appease the internet horror character Slender Man has disappeared after removing an electronic monitoring device and leaving a group home.
Police in Madison issued an alert Sunday regarding Morgan Geyser, now 23, stating she was last seen around 8 p.m. Saturday accompanied by an adult acquaintance.
"If you see Geyser, please call 911," the alert advised, noting that she had removed a "Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet."
Geyser was relocated to a group home this year after receiving conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute. She had been committed to this psychiatric facility in 2018 after entering a guilty plea to attempted first-degree intentional homicide in a prosecution agreement to avoid prison.
On Sunday, Geyser's attorney, Tony Cotton, indicated he was unaware of what had happened with his client and urged Geyser to surrender herself.
"It's in her best interest for her to turn herself in immediately and not continue with this course of action," Cotton stated in an Instagram video where he directly addressed Geyser at points. "We don't know any of the facts about what happened or who might have assisted her."
According to authorities, Geyser and her friend, Anissa Weier, were 12 years old when they enticed their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a suburban Milwaukee park following a sleepover. Geyser inflicted more than a dozen stab wounds on Leutner while Weier encouraged her. Leutner narrowly survived the attack.
The girls later informed investigators that they attacked Leutner to earn the privilege of becoming Slender Man's servants and feared he would harm their families if they didn't carry out the act.
Slender Man was created online by Eric Knudson in 2009 as a mysterious figure digitally inserted into everyday photographs of children at play. The character evolved into a popular boogeyman, appearing in video games, online stories, and a 2018 movie.
Weier pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide. She was also committed to the psychiatric center and granted release in 2021.
