Singapore Deports Australian Man Over Ariana Grande Incident

Singapore authorities have deported an Australian man named Johnson Wen after he completed a nine-day jail sentence for rushing towards Ariana Grande during the Asian premiere of "Wicked: For Good," according to local media reports.

The immigration authorities of Singapore issued a statement to broadcaster CNA confirming that Wen "has been barred from re-entering Singapore" following the incident that occurred on November 13.

During the highly anticipated opening night of the "Wicked" sequel, Wen breached security by jumping over a barricade and placing his arm around Grande, resulting in his arrest hours later on charges of "being a public nuisance."

Viral video footage of the incident shows Wen wrapping his arm around the visibly shocked star before enthusiastically jumping up and down and waving to onlookers. Grande's co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly came to her defense before security personnel intervened and removed the man from the area.

Singapore District Judge Christopher Goh, who presided over the case, described Wen as "attention seeking" and noted that the Australian had allegedly disrupted other global sports events and concerts in the past. The judge emphasized that Wen "showed a pattern of behavior" suggesting he might repeat such actions.

The nine-day jail sentence Wen received fell considerably short of the maximum penalty allowed by law, which could have included up to three months in jail, a fine of $1,500, or both.

During court proceedings, Wen acknowledged that he was "wrong" to believe his actions would not have consequences and promised not to repeat such behavior in the future.

Despite the disruption, the premiere continued as planned, with cast members gathering around Grande before proceeding down the yellow carpet.

Grande, 32, began her professional career as a teenager on Broadway before transitioning to her highly successful career as a pop music artist.
