In Hathras, authorities have apprehended a man accused of murdering a 60-year-old woman who allegedly pressured him for marriage. The arrest occurred on Sunday following an extensive investigation.

According to law enforcement, an unidentified female body was discovered on November 14 near the roadside at the Nagla Bhus trisection in the Chandpa area of Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district.

Following the discovery, authorities formed 10 specialized teams tasked with identifying the deceased woman and locating the perpetrator.

Investigators later identified the victim as 60-year-old Joshina.

After analyzing footage from approximately 1,000 CCTV cameras across five districts, police identified and tracked down suspect Imran, 45, a resident from Tajganj in Agra, according to a senior police official.

Authorities arrested Imran near Hatisa bridge in Hathras on Sunday. The victim's mobile phone was subsequently recovered after the suspect revealed its location.

Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha explained that the accused had previously facilitated the marriage of Joshina's daughter Mumtaz to Agra resident Sattar.

Since Imran's in-laws resided near Joshina's home in West Bengal, the pair frequently encountered each other and apparently developed a relationship over time.

The officer stated that Joshina had traveled from Kolkata to attend her granddaughter's wedding on November 10 and visited Imran's residence, where she allegedly pressured him to marry her.

Imran declined her proposal, citing his existing marriage and children as reasons.

During questioning, Imran revealed to police that he departed with Joshina on November 13, ostensibly to escort her back to Kolkata.

Instead, they boarded transportation toward Agra before disembarking at the Nagla Bhus trisection in Hathras.

According to police reports, Imran confessed to strangling Joshina at that location to "get rid of her" and subsequently attempted to disguise the crime as someone else's doing by disheveling her clothing before fleeing the scene.
