Trump Withdraws Support for Marjorie Taylor Greene Amid Growing Republican Divide Over Epstein Files

President Trump has officially withdrawn his endorsement of Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, calling her a "ranting lunatic" amid disagreements over the Epstein investigation files and other policy matters. This surprising rift within the MAGA movement comes at a critical time for Republicans, just one year before the 2026 midterm elections, as Trump faces criticism on multiple fronts including inflation and his connections to the Epstein scandal.

United States President Donald Trump announced Friday he was rescinding his endorsement of staunch ally Marjorie Taylor Greene following multiple disagreements, describing the hard-right congresswoman as a "ranting lunatic."

This rupture represents a remarkable division within Trump's Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement just one year before US midterm elections, as Trump faces mounting criticism regarding inflation and the Jeffrey Epstein controversy.

"I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of 'Congresswoman' Marjorie Taylor Greene," Trump declared in a statement on his Truth Social platform.

"All I see 'Wacky' Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!"

Trump indicated willingness to support a challenger if Republicans in Greene's home state of Georgia decided to mount a primary challenge against her, noting that constituents were "fed up with her and her antics."

"If the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support. She has gone Far Left," Trump stated.

Trump has previously and largely successfully backed primary challenges against Republicans he deemed insufficiently loyal.

Greene swiftly responded on X saying "I don't worship or serve Donald Trump."

She claimed Trump was targeting her as punishment—and as a warning to fellow Republicans—because she supports congressional efforts calling for the administration to release complete files from the Epstein investigation.

This division emerges at a precarious moment for Trump, following significant election losses earlier this month that have caused Republican anxiety one year before the 2026 midterms.

The firebrand congresswoman, 51, was until recently an unwavering Trump supporter—even wearing a "Trump Was Right About Everything" hat during his congressional address in March.

She has recently diverged from him on numerous issues, prompting Trump to express frustration for the first time on Monday, claiming she had "lost her way."

Early signs of discord appeared when she broke with fellow Republicans over the summer by characterizing Israel's war in Gaza as a "genocide."

Greene has also criticized healthcare policies and particularly the cost of living crisis, urging Trump to prioritize domestic issues over foreign policy and peace agreements.

Perhaps the most contentious area has been Greene's stance on the Epstein scandal, which has recently entangled Trump again following the release of new email evidence.

After becoming a prominent advocate for justice for victims of the notorious sex offender, Greene this week joined a small group of MAGA rebels supporting Democrats' call for a vote to pressure Trump to release documents related to the Epstein investigation.

"And of course he's coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files," Greene stated in her Friday night X post.

"It's astonishing really how hard he's fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level," she added.

Greene's abrupt shift has fueled speculation about a potential 2028 presidential campaign, though she has dismissed such talk as "baseless gossip."

Known for her caustic remarks toward Democrats and journalists, Greene previously established herself as a fierce defender of Trump's policies.

She had also embraced QAnon conspiracy theories and in 2018 claimed that California wildfires were ignited by a space laser controlled by the Jewish Rothschild family.
