Google is set to integrate Gemini into its Chrome browser for U.S. users beginning Thursday, shortly after a federal judge ruled against a forced breakup in an antitrust case.
The Alphabet-owned company will not be required to divest the browser, as determined by a Washington judge earlier this month, marking a significant victory for Big Tech in its ongoing regulatory battles. However, Google must share data with competitors to enhance competition in online search.

According to Google's Thursday blog post, the Gemini AI models extension will be available to Mac and Windows desktop users in the United States with English language settings.
In the near future, Apple's iOS Chrome application will also feature built-in Gemini capabilities.
The Gemini integration in Chrome will expand to businesses through Google Workspace in coming weeks, alongside availability on mobile devices across the U.S.
Google has also developed enhanced connections between Gemini in Chrome and various Google applications, including Calendar, YouTube, and Maps.
In the months ahead, Google plans to add agentic capabilities to Gemini in Chrome, enabling it to perform multi-step tasks. Additional features will include locating previously visited webpages and summarizing content across multiple websites.
This integration represents Google's competitive response to companies offering agentic browsers, such as Perplexity, which made a $34.5 billion unsolicited all-cash offer for Chrome in August.
Perplexity's AI-powered browser, Comet, can execute specific tasks on behalf of users.
Judge Amit Mehta's early September ruling permits Google to maintain control of Chrome and the Android mobile operating system, while prohibiting certain exclusive contracts with device manufacturers and browser developers. Google can continue financial arrangements with partners like Apple to feature its search engine, a practice fundamental to its search dominance.
According to Bloomberg News reporting in August, Apple has approached Google about utilizing Gemini AI to enhance the Siri voice assistant.
