Trump Eliminates Tariffs on Beef, Coffee and Tropical Fruits Amid Rising Consumer Prices

President Trump has signed an executive order removing tariffs on beef, coffee and tropical fruits following framework agreements with several Latin American countries. The move aims to address consumer concerns about high grocery prices, particularly record beef costs, which have become a significant political issue following recent Democratic electoral victories.

Trump Lifts Tariffs On Beef, Coffee, Tropical Fruits

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order eliminating tariffs on various commodities including beef, coffee, and tropical fruits, responding to mounting consumer pressure over elevated grocery prices.

This decision follows recent off-year elections where economic concerns dominated voter priorities, resulting in significant Democratic victories in Virginia and New Jersey contests.

The executive order was signed after the United States established framework agreements with Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Argentina, specifically designed to reduce import duties on agricultural products from these nations. Earlier in the week, Trump had indicated his intention to lower coffee tariffs to increase imports.

Despite the Trump administration's longstanding assertion that tariffs do not drive up consumer prices, the executive order addresses several products that are not domestically produced in the United States.

Notably, record-high beef prices have been a particular focus of consumer complaints, with Trump acknowledging the need for intervention. His previous tariffs on Brazilian imports, a major beef exporting country, have been identified as a contributing factor to these elevated prices.
