Elon Musk reshared a compelling video showing how Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology helped a driver narrowly avoid a severe accident. Tesla's advanced driver-assistance system employs cameras, neural networks, and artificial intelligence to control steering, acceleration, and braking functions.
On social platform X, a user called Clifford described his harrowing experience while traveling through New Mexico after attending the Tesla shareholders' meeting. He reported that the FSD system prevented a potential head-on collision with oncoming traffic moving at approximately 75 mph.
The video Musk reposted gained tremendous online attention, accumulating over 14 million views and more than 1,500 comments. Clifford expressed his gratitude in the caption, writing "FSD saves lives," and further elaborated: "It happened to me tonight. Going through New Mexico from the Tesla Shareholders' meeting, the head-on collision (75 mph) with oncoming traffic was averted. Just a broken mirror, busted window, and a bit of a shaken mind. Thank you Elon, thank you Tesla, thank you cybertruck."
The online community quickly responded with supportive messages. One user commented, "Glad you're safe," while another observed, "With all the glare from the headlights and the speed they were traveling they could have easily ended up in an accident. FSD saved at least three vehicles and maybe four from a possible fatality." A third user shared a similar experience: "Same thing happened to me with accident on a freeway. I could not have reacted as fast as the car. Glad you're safe. Took me a while to calm down."
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system is designed to assist with driving maneuvers "intelligently" and "accurately." The technology supports route navigation, steering, lane changes, parking, and additional functions while under active human supervision.
According to Tesla's official website, the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) feature is currently available in the United States, Canada, China, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, and New Zealand. The company emphasizes that "Currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous."
