Andhra Student, 23, Dies In US. Friends Say She Had Been Coughing For 2 Days

Yarlagadda passed away on November 7.

A 23-year-old Indian student has been discovered deceased in her Texas apartment, causing profound grief among her family and friends. The student, Rajyalakshmi (Raji) Yarlagadda, originated from Andhra Pradesh and had recently completed her studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She was actively seeking employment opportunities in the United States at the time of her death.

According to her cousin Chaitanya YVK, Yarlagadda had been suffering from a severe cough and chest pain for approximately two to three days before her passing on November 7.

"On the morning of November 7, 2025, she tragically did not respond to her alarm, leaving her loved ones devastated," her cousin explained. Friends later discovered that she had passed away during her sleep.

Authorities in the US are currently conducting a medical examination of Yarlagadda's body to determine the precise cause of death.

Meanwhile, Chaitanya has established a GoFundMe fundraiser from Denton, Texas, to provide assistance to Yarlagadda's grieving family in Andhra Pradesh. The fundraiser appeal reveals that Yarlagadda came to the United States with aspirations of supporting her parents, who work as farmers in Karmechedu village of Bapatla district, Andhra Pradesh.

"Raji's family derives their strength and purpose from their small farmland in the village. Their crops and livestock represent more than just income. Their youngest daughter, Raji, carried hopes for the future and dreamed of helping her parents build a better life... Her unexpected death has not only broken their hearts but also placed them in financial difficulty," states the appeal.

The fundraising campaign aims to cover funeral expenses, transportation of Yarlagadda's remains to India, repayment of her educational loans, and provision of financial support for her parents.
