President Trump Signals Openness to Iran Sanctions Relief Amid Ongoing Tensions

US President Donald Trump has indicated willingness to consider lifting sanctions against Iran following inquiries from Tehran, despite ongoing tensions. This development comes amid stalled nuclear talks, recent military actions against Iranian nuclear facilities, and Supreme Leader Khamenei's statement that cooperation remains impossible while the US continues supporting Israel and maintaining regional military presence.

President Trump Says Iran Inquiring About US Sanctions Relief

US President Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that Iran has been inquiring about the possibility of lifting US sanctions imposed against the country.

"Iran has been asking if the sanctions could be lifted. Iran has got very heavy US sanctions, and it makes it really hard for them to do what they'd like to be able to do. And I'm open to hearing that, and we'll see what happens, but I would be open to it," Trump informed reporters during a late Thursday press briefing at the White House.

The Iranian mission to the United Nations in New York did not provide an immediate response when asked for comment on the matter.

Earlier on Monday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated that cooperation between Iran and the United States remains impossible as long as Washington continues its support for Israel, maintains military bases in the region, and interferes in Middle Eastern affairs.

Since beginning his second term in January, Trump has reinstated his "maximum pressure" campaign targeting Iran, which includes efforts to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons capabilities. In June, the United States conducted military strikes against Iran's nuclear facilities.

Prior to the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel in June, the two nations had engaged in five rounds of nuclear negotiations. However, these talks have encountered significant obstacles, particularly regarding uranium enrichment on Iranian soil. Western powers aim to reduce this enrichment to zero to minimize weaponization risks—a proposal that Tehran has firmly rejected.
