80,000 Non-Immigrant Visas Revoked Under Trump Administration: Policy Impact and Enforcement Measures

Since taking office on January 20, the Trump administration has revoked approximately 80,000 non-immigrant visas for various offenses including driving under the influence, assault, and theft, according to a senior State Department official on Wednesday.

This significant number of revocations, initially reported by Washington Examiner, represents the extensive immigration enforcement measures implemented when Trump assumed office, which has led to deportations of unprecedented numbers of migrants, including some with valid visas.

The administration has implemented more rigorous visa approval policies, featuring enhanced social media screening and expanded vetting procedures.

Of the total revocations, approximately 16,000 were related to driving under the influence cases, about 12,000 for assault charges, and another 8,000 for theft offenses.

"These three crimes accounted for almost half of revocations this year," revealed the senior State Department official, who spoke anonymously.

A State Department spokesperson announced in August that Washington had revoked over 6,000 student visas due to overstays and legal violations, including a small number for "support for terrorism."

Additionally, the department confirmed last month that it had revoked visas for at least six individuals over social media comments regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in May that he had revoked visas for hundreds, possibly thousands of people, including students, due to involvement in activities he claimed contradicted US foreign policy priorities.

Directives issued by the State Department this year have instructed US diplomats abroad to carefully scrutinize any applicants who might be viewed as hostile to the United States or who have histories of political activism.

Trump administration officials have indicated that student visa and green card holders could face deportation for supporting Palestinians or criticizing Israel's actions in the Gaza war, characterizing such expressions as threats to US foreign policy and labeling them as pro-Hamas.
