Varanasi's historic ghats metamorphosed into a heavenly landscape Wednesday evening as hundreds of thousands of 'diyas' illuminated the sacred Ganga riverbanks during the grand 'Dev Deepawali' celebration. This divine festival, commonly referred to as the 'Diwali of the Gods,' converted the ancient Uttar Pradesh city into a brilliant ocean of light, wonder, and spiritual devotion.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared stunning aerial photographs of the celebrations on social media platform X, captioning them: "Spectacular Dev Deepawali in Kashi!"

The Prime Minister represents the Varanasi constituency in the Lok Sabha. Having first claimed victory in 2014, he currently serves his third consecutive term after winning re-election from the constituency during the 2024 general elections.

The shared images revealed the ghats adorned in luminous golden decorations while thousands of worshippers gathered in reverence. The night sky above was illuminated with vibrant fireworks displays.

This celebration, occurring 15 days after the traditional Diwali festival, commemorates Lord Shiva's triumph over the demon Tripurasura.

On this auspicious occasion, devotees illuminate all 88 ghats of Kashi with earthen lamps, offering prayers and witnessing cultural performances that showcase the city's profound spiritual heritage.

From Rajghat to Assi Ghat, every section along the riverbank glowed with innumerable 'diyas,' creating enchanting reflections upon the sacred waters of the Ganga.

Numerous buildings and temples were decorated with elaborate lighting arrangements, while boats carrying pilgrims and tourists drifted across the river, providing a magical view of the illuminated ancient city.

Officials had implemented comprehensive arrangements to manage the enormous influx of visitors, ensuring the ceremonies proceeded smoothly and maintaining crowd safety.

Dev Deepawali in Varanasi continues drawing devotees and tourists from throughout India and overseas, celebrating not only religious faith but also the eternal connection between the holy Ganga and the spiritual essence of this sacred city.
