Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum encountered an unexpected situation during a public engagement in Mexico City's historic downtown on Tuesday. While speaking with citizens, an apparently intoxicated man approached her from behind and attempted physical contact before being intercepted by a government official.

Social media platforms quickly circulated video footage showing the individual leaning toward the president in what appeared to be an attempt to kiss her while placing his hands on her body. President Sheinbaum responded by gently pushing his hands away, maintaining her composure with a fixed smile as she turned to face him. She was heard saying "Don't worry" during the interaction.

The presidential office has not yet provided an official statement regarding this incident when requested for comment.

Following the approach of her predecessor and mentor, former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Sheinbaum regularly engages directly with citizens, often immersing herself in crowds to take selfies and shake hands. During Tuesday's incident, her security detail was not immediately visible in the close-up video footage.

This unsettling encounter occurred during a particularly challenging week for Sheinbaum, who has been addressing questions about political violence following the public assassination of a mayor in Michoacan state's western region. On the same day as this incident, the President met with the widow of the slain mayor.
